Our Commitment to Sustainability & Community Impact
A Pledge to Protect Paradise
For Wayag Raja Ampat Tours, sustainability is not a marketing term; it is the fundamental principle upon which our company was founded. We operate in one of the most biodiverse and fragile ecosystems on Earth, and we recognize our profound responsibility to protect it for generations to come. Our vision of luxury is one that enriches our guests’ lives while simultaneously enriching the local environment and communities. This commitment is woven into every aspect of our operations, from the partners we select to the experiences we design on our Wayag Raja Ampat tours.
Environmental Stewardship in Action
Our environmental policies are specific, measurable, and rigorously enforced across all our operations and with all our partners.
- Carbon Responsibility: We are actively developing a carbon offsetting program in partnership with the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in Borneo, allowing our clients to offset the carbon footprint of their international and domestic flights. Our goal is to make every journey carbon-neutral by 2025.
- Zero Single-Use Plastics: All our chartered vessels and partner resorts have a strict no single-use plastic policy. We provide all guests with reusable water bottles and use filtered water systems onboard. All provisions are sourced with minimal packaging.
- Marine Conservation Funding: We are a proud contributor to the Raja Ampat Marine Park Authority (BLUD UPTD). A percentage of our revenue from every trip is donated directly to fund their marine patrol units (Pokmaswas), which are crucial for combating illegal fishing and protecting the no-take zones.
- Reef-Safe Practices: We mandate the use of reef-safe sunscreens for all guests and crew. Our dive briefings, led by experts like those on our team, include strict protocols on buoyancy control and marine life interaction to ensure zero impact on the coral reefs.
- Waste Management: We adhere to a ‘pack in, pack out’ philosophy. All waste generated during our tours is carefully sorted and transported back to Sorong for proper disposal and recycling, far exceeding local requirements.
Empowering Local Communities
We believe that sustainable tourism must provide tangible, long-term benefits to the local people who are the traditional custodians of this land and sea. Our community initiatives are built on partnership and respect.
- Local Employment & Training: We maintain a policy that over 90% of our on-the-ground guides, boat crew, and support staff must be from local Papuan communities. We invest in their future by providing professional development, including English language courses, PADI dive certifications, and Emergency First Response (EFR) training.
- Supporting Local Enterprises: We prioritize sourcing provisions from local markets in Waisai and Sorong. We facilitate respectful and non-transactional visits to villages like Arborek and Sawinggrai, where guests can purchase traditional crafts, such as noken bags, directly from the artisans, ensuring 100% of the revenue stays within the community.
- Community Development Projects: Through our parent, Juara Holding Group, we sponsor educational programs in partner villages, focusing on waste management education and providing school supplies. We also contribute to the maintenance of vital community infrastructure, such as jetties and clean water facilities.
Our Guiding Philosophy
Our approach is guided by the principle of ‘Leave No Trace, Leave a Positive Impact.’ We are guests in this incredible place, and our mission is to ensure that the only things we leave behind are footprints on the sand and positive benefits for the community. The only things we take are memories, photographs, and a deeper understanding of our planet’s precious ecosystems. This philosophy is central to our identity and is a core part of the value we offer to our clients.
